ALK: anaplastic lymphoma kinase, a gene that controls cell growth. Changes to the ALK gene can lead to cancer.
ALKie: Someone who has ALK+ lung cancer
NED: An acronym for "No Evidence of Disease". A term used to describe the result of a scan (i.e. CT or MRI) which indicates the scan could not detect any cancer cells.
NSCLC: An acronym for non-small cell lung cancer.
Parietal Lobe: one of the four major lobes of the brain, located in the upper-rear portion of the skull.
Pleural effusion: an abnormal accumulation of fluid in the pleural space, the thin cavity between the lungs and the chest wall.
TKI: An acronym for Tyrosine Kinase Inihibitor. Many of the treatments for ALK+ lung cancer are TKIs.
